Acer restructured its businesses to create a new mobile unit called Touch Business Group (BG), which will focus on smartphone business and activities of tablet device. Sitting alongside Acer core global PC operations division, the new division will be headed by Jim Wong, President of Acer corporate; and Simon Hwang, President of the business of Information Eten of Acer systems, which also has been appointed Vice-President of BG Touch.
Recently Acer has unveiled a number of smartphones and tablets, which are running Android or Windows 7. The company is the third largest PC manufacturer, but is expected now its shipments would fall by 10% in the first quarter of 2011 to the second. Therefore, they are exploring other markets and want to take advantage of the supply chain existing repeat the success on the markets booming smartphone and tablet.
