Motorola introduced a SocialTV service that will allow its smartphones and tablets to interact with television.
The Motorola SocialTV service can at best be described as a companion to television. While you look at your stories, this service will give you access to other content. That the content will include the elements of the social network, exclusive content, chat (possibly) and more.
"Consumers increasingly use companion instruments to enhance their entertainment experience,", said John Burke, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, experiments have converged, Motorola, mobility, in a prepared statement. "Our companion Service SocialTV is leveraging the convergence of devices of companion, community and entertainment to create an experience more enjoyable and customized for the consumer, while providing the service provider the opportunity to monetize this experience".
This is an interesting idea and we have seen this type of service before with Yap.TV and GetGlue. Motorola has much more weight than these small developers of the app, so SocialTV can make this interactive TV concept to the masses.
Of course, I understand the appeal of Twitter or chatrooms while watching a show or sporting events, but sometimes I find a little too much. I am on the Internet all day, so that my time tube bustier is not always be connected. Again, I love the option and wait to see how the SocialTV of Motorola service is implemented.
To be clear, this service is intended to service providers, so it may take some time for this is deployed and there are several skins for the service SocialTV de Motorola. There was no word when we can expect is available on devices consumers but we will be guard an eye on it.
