Carlo Chiarello, RIM VP of GSM/UMTS business unit, recently spoke about their progress for QNX-system of exploitation of the Handbook in smartphones. It is something that RIM has admitted as a possibility, but something more specific beyond which was difficult to obtain. Here are apparently already prototypes running the OS, which Chiarello said "look, wonderful", and even if he was evasive on a launch window, he said that we can expect all-touch form factor in a device operating at their top level. We already know that phones RIM QNX will be quite high, given that executions have said they are waiting on processors dual core before making the switch.
Time will be a big factor; RIM making the struggle to get these phones out as quickly as possible, but we're hearing that there are still problems these things through the door and will not probably nothing again (other than bold 9900) for back to school season. Android hardware and iOS exceeding BlackBerry for a long time now, but this switch for processors dual-core and a whole new operating system will mark the beginning of a push to catch up. If the app developers are willing go along the ride is completely another story, but once the dust settles and all the old BlackBerry OS functions are plugged into the new QNX one, we may see a new and reinvigorated BlackBerry ecosystem. The hope here is that, anyway.
