It was only a few days ago when we saw the next release candidate for CyanogenMod 7, the popular custom ROM based on Android gingerbread 2.3.3. To our great surprise, with the CM team themselves, RC2 has been downloaded more than 150 000 times within 24 hours.
I initially had issues installing this RC, but everything worked thereafter, and the latest version of CM is large. But what has contributed to such massive flooding of downloads? Well, the fact that the RC2 is available for the 16 different handsets is probably the reason behind all this, but in any event, 150 000 downloads in such a small amount of time is quite the feat to accomplish.
If you are downloading a ROM like this, then you are probably already rooted and may have some experience behind flashing Roma custom. The most recent version release candidate is not a stable version, but that does not mean that it is not usable, and it sure that did not prevent the flood of downloads.
Cyanogen team certainly has its work cut out for them, as we can expect a more recent version of the operating system announced in may, and we hope that this time CM7 will be went stable. Then there are also Android 3.0 honeycomb, but we do not know if we have seen an official CyanogenMod for tablets, and even if we do, we always need the source code, which has yet to be released.
We have never really doubted that CM team would do great things with Android and we are pleased to see that there are many interested parties. It seems that it may be that a question of time before that Google tries to reacquire the popular team and their work on the team of developers Android official - which could allow users a relatively pure experience, stock.
What is you have downloaded the RC2 yet? Tell us what you think of it so far in the comments below.
