SXSW 2011, group messaging applications are heat and you've probably heard of beluga and GroupMe contenders but GroupedIn plays in this space and its social networking integration can provide a leg against the competition.
Basically, the iPhone GroupedIn application is a group messaging application which aims to make it easier for a group communicate with each other. You will be able to quickly create groups through the iPhone application and you will be able to communicate with the members of the group non-iPhone via SMS. The company promises that a GroupedIn iPhone application will be hitting Android in the not too distant future.
Group Messaging works as you expect it, but what can this Layaway is the integration of Twitter and Facebook. GroupedIn notifications can be sent to users on Facebook, it will post them their wall if they were allowed it and you will even be able to see the full conversation on this message within the app, even if some users of Facebook are not part of the group.
GroupedIn iPhone application could use a little more Polish, but I love what it does and functions and features are there. A little more smooth user interface would go a long way.
It will be difficult for this app win a lot of traction, as it is a highly crowded space. We talked to the founder of the GroupMe at SXSW and that the company made a good start to the owner of this space.
The large whale in it will be Facebook, which recently bought Beluga. I could easily see the social networking giant to integrate this technology in its various applications. Of course, privacy can still be a concern, each time that you are involved with Facebook and get a ton of users to enter their phone numbers can be a steep challenge in the first place.
