XDA-developer Member coolbho3000 was able to overclock two nuclei of Xoom Motorola GHz 1.5 rapid fire. Xoom Motorola stock comes with a processor dual-core Tegra 2 processor at 1 GHz. This limitation was imposed to protect the device and make sure it runs easily and safely. As with anything, there is a limit, someone will break it. In this case, Member coolbho3000, the developer behind SetCPU, application could break past that threshold of 1 GHz by flashing the device with a modified with an overclocked core boot.img.
The new kernel by default at 1 GHz for safety but also the 1.2 GHz steps 1.4 and 1.5 GHz so you can test different clock speeds of stability and performance. coolbho3000 has also updated its application of SetCPU in support of the Motorola Tablet and is working on a version of tablet-optimized honeycomb. Once he took his Xoom works at 1.5 GHz, he presented a Quadrant benchmark which was almost off the charts. Its 3105 score takes precedence over the 2226 Xoom stock configuration and duplicate that nearest reference including the Nexus One and Droid X standards.
As with any hack or mod like this, an owner of Xoom must perform this upgrade at their own risk. A step wrong, and you can brick your device. There is also the minimum risk that Overclocking can damage internal components. Finally, there is a rumor floating nasty around thinking that if you root your Xoom, Motorola will not update your device with 4 G when this upgrade becomes available. If this rumor pans out, you may need to choose between now faster core speed or more rapid speed of data later. A difficult decision, no?
