Japanese DoCoMo and KT team-up on transborder NFC Koreans

NTT Docomo has announced an agreement with KT Corporation South Korea using near field communication (NFC) technologies to develop cross-border services for mobile payments, ticketing for mass-transit, promotional coupons and other services. If all goes as planned, the two operators of the market leaders will launch in their respective markets of the end of 2012 autour.

By the bias of business & technology joint cooperation Committee, Docomo and KT will develop NFC common specifications are inserted in devices, networks and platforms of billing for the NFC mobile services. As a result, customers travelling between the South Korea and the Japan will have access to services for compatible Android phones having contactless IC chips.

But the buck can't if stop there - Docomo also plans to present an overview of the common specifications to global industry standards as the GSMA, organizations and associations with the ultimate goal to build an international environment for the NFC services compatible. In this sense, the company has formed strategic with Visa, chip anchors NFC and mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics and SIM card vendor Gemalto. Furthermore, DOCOMO will collaborate with Sumitomo Mitsui Card and bitWallet for enhanced cross-border services.

For the record, Docomo provides Osaifu-Keitai Japan since 2004, NFC mobile-wallet services-oriented while KT operates a service transit postpaid South Korea since 2002.
